Eugenie Rabe, Executive Director

Eugenie Rabe retired from the position of Chief Operating Officer of Umalusi, Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training in 2015, after thirty-eight years' service in the education system. She was initially appointed as the Manager: FET, with oversight of the quality assurance of TVET Colleges and Adult Learning Centres.

She was later promoted to Senior Manager: Evaluation and Accreditation and oversaw the development of the accreditation system for the various provider sectors within Umalusi's mandate, including independent schools and private assessment bodies. In 2007 she was appointed to the position of Chief Operating Officer with oversight of all the professional work of Umalusi - Quality Assurance of Qualifications, Curriculum and Certification, Quality Assurance of Assessment, Evaluation and Accreditation, and Research.

Prior to her appointment to Umalusi she served in both teaching and management capacities in public schools and TVET Colleges. Eugenie is originally from Kwa-Zulu Natal, where she matriculated at Wykeham High School (Now Wykeham Collegiate) in Pietermaritzburg in 1971. She went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Stellenbosch and later a Higher Education Diploma from the University of Natal. She moved with her husband Eric Rabe, to Johannesburg in 1995. They have two daughters and five grandchildren.

 


Ivy Matthews, Office Administrator

Ivy Matthews joined IQAA as the Office Manager in the newly opened office in Johannesburg on 1 January 2020.

She began her career as an administrator in various schools in the Mosselbay / Knysna area. Later she was employed in a range of administrative capacities including finance and HR by the South Cape Land Committee and a number of other NGO's.

Prior to accepting the position at IQAA she was employed by the Anglican Diocese of Johannesburg in administration and HR. Ivy is married to  Reverend Basil Matthews of the St Chad's Parish in Edenvale, Johannesburg. They have one son.

 


Zena Payne, Online Administrator

Zena completed an undergraduate degree in education and spent 12 years teaching before she ventured out into educational consultancy work. Having gathered experience both in SA and in the UK, Zena initially started writing and training for Cool to Be Me, a social and emotional life skills home and school programme. In addition to this Zena has been involved in teacher professional development, monitoring and mentoring.

Throughout each of these experiences, Zena has served in a number of admin roles, which have involved online surveys, school fundraising initiatives and digital marketing.

Zena is married to Alister, an Edtech specialist and founder of Cloud Education Solutions. They have two lovely daughters who keep them extremely busy. Alister and Zena are passionate about their family, friends and faith.
